The Crows will go into Thursday night’s clash with Collingwood as named.

Young midfielder Matt Crouch will start as the substitute.

On Wednesday, it was announced promoted rookie Charlie Cameron would make his AFL debut against the Pies.

Cameron, 19, was elevated to the senior Crows squad on Tuesday in place of captain Nathan van Berlo, who is on the long-term injury list. Cameron will be joined in the forward line by two-time leading goalkicker Taylor Walker, who will play his first AFL game of the year.

Adelaide has made a total of five changes for the Pies clash, with 2010 Club Champion Richard Douglas, veteran defender Ben Rutten and in-form wingman Brodie Martin also recalled to the side. They replace Tom Lynch (jaw) and Brent Reilly, Sam Shaw, Jared Petrenko and Mitch Grigg, who have been omitted.

Cameron will become the 199th player to represent the Adelaide Football Club. Recruited from WAFL club Swan Districts with Adelaide’s first pick (No.7) in last year’s AFL Rookie Draft, the speedy forward got a taste of AFL in Adelaide’s opening NAB Challenge match. He’s kicked nine goals in five SANFL games, including a bag of four against Glenelg, to be the Club’s leading SANFL goalkicker this season. Cameron, who hails from a rugby background, is also a fierce tackler and competitor.

Coach Brenton Sanderson said Cameron would add spark to Adelaide’s attack.

“Charlie is a really dynamic small forward. He’s high energy player. He knows where the goals are and applies strong defensive pressure,” Sanderson said.

“His form throughout the pre-season and in the SANFL has been great. Charlie actually lives with Eddie Betts, so I’m sure those two will enjoy playing together and getting at the feet of big ‘Tex’ Walker, who’s back this week too.

“It’ll be really exciting for our fans to see this new-look forward line together.”

It will be 384 days between AFL games for Walker, who seriously injured his knee against Carlton in Round Five last season. The skilful 24-year-old kicked seven goals in two appearances for the Club’s SANFL team and is ready to return to the highest level.

“He's the spirit of our football team, Tex…when he's up and about, when he's playing well, we're typically playing well," Sanderson said.

"We have to be patient with him; he's had 12 months out. What we've seen in the state league's been really promising and really exciting – he's stronger, he looks fitter than before he got injured, but we'll have to wait and see.

"The fairytale is that he comes in and kicks a lot of goals for us but we're just looking for a really good even balance of attack and defence from him."

Jaensch was initially suspected to have suffered broken ribs in Adelaide’s clash with Melbourne, but scans have cleared him of any breaks. The neat-kicking defender has recovered well and trained with the team during the week.

Rutten is back after a three-week absence recovering from a nagging knee complaint. Douglas returns after serving a two-game suspension, while Martin has been recalled after showing excellent form in the SANFL. Sanderson said the inclusions would be important against a red-hot Collingwood.

“Matty Jaensch has been an important player for us this season. He’s pulled up better than expected. We’ve tested him out at training and are confident he’s right to go,” Sanderson said.

“We all know ‘Dougy’ is a quality player. He finished runner-up in our best and fairest last year and works hard offensively and defensively. He’ll add to our midfield depth and goalkicking power.

“’Truck’ was never going to be out of the side for long once he recovered from his sore knee. He’s an experienced player and the leader of our young backline.

“Brodie Martin deserves his chance. He’s had some challenges to overcome. He’s been in and out of the side a bit and missed a State League game to be an emergency for our AFL team, but his attitude and form when he’s played in the SANFL has been outstanding. Brodie gives us some more outside run and polish. We really want to see him take the game on and use his skills to advantage.”

Sanderson said it was difficult to leave Reilly out of the team ahead of what would’ve been his 200th game.

"It is probably the toughest decision I've had to make as a senior coach so far," Sanderson said.

"On the eve of a milestone game it seems like it can be quite cold…he's going to be fine though, he's played with a lot of resilience, he's obviously got a lot of experience – he'll be back, he will be a 200-game player.

"Brent gets the ball for us but he's had some goals kicked against him as a defender the last couple of weeks – that’s probably the main message for him. He won't be out of the side for long."

Adelaide will take on Collingwood in the first night game at Adelaide Oval and the first ‘home’ Thursday night fixture in the Crows’ history. The match starts at 7:20pm (SA time).
