Adelaide coach Don Pyke says Elliott Himmelberg is the likely candidate to replace the injured Josh Jenkins up forward.

Speaking to the media at West Lakes on Wednesday, Pyke said the young forward had worked hard in the SANFL and was ready for his return.

“It’s fair to say Elliott is in the box seat for that spot,” Pyke said.

“We thought about two rucks, but Elliott has had that role in the past and performed strongly.

“His early form (in the AFL) was really strong and he’s been able to go back to the SANFL and keep building.

“I’m sure if he gets the opportunity he’ll apply that learning to perform strongly on Friday night.”

Tom Lynch has also been ruled out of the clash with Geelong on Friday night, but could push for selection in Round 16’s Showdown.

“He’s moving OK, he’s probably just got one last step to tick off,” Pyke said.

“It felt like a reach too far this week but we’re really hopeful for him for next week.

“He’ll have a few more sessions over the weekend and hopefully get into full training next week.”
