MELBOURNE is targeting contracted Adelaide youngster Jarryd Lyons, the 21-year-old Victorian who has played 12 games since making his debut in round five, 2012.

Having met with 28-year-old Adelaide midfielder Bernie Vince on Friday, the Demons are also contemplating trying to attract the contracted Lyons. However AFL.com.au understands any deals that might involve the two Crows reaching Melbourne are quite separate and not part of a complicated package exchanging picks and players.

Lyons' dad Marty played 27 games for the Demons during the 1970s, was a good player for Sandringham in the VFA and has been a committee man at the strong St Peter's junior football club that has spawned several Melbourne players. Adelaide used selection No.61 to pick him in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft and he has performed well, with good hands in tight and great courage. He played nine games in 2013 yet also managed to finish fourth in Glenelg's best and fairest.

The midfielder has one year of his contract with the Crows remaining and AFL.com.au understands he is very happy in Adelaide and with the club but Melbourne could offer more immediate opportunities for Lyons as he tries to establish an AFL career. Adelaide's manager of list development and strategy David Noble said the club was confident Lyons would remain with the Crows.

"We are aware of Melbourne's interest but he is contracted and has not told us he wants to leave."

Lyons has met with the Demons but remains uncertain whether he is prepared to initiate attempting a move.

Lyons' name has also been raised in trade talks with the Brisbane Lions about the homesick Jared Polec, but there is next to no chance of him leaving the Crows to head there.

Vince met with Melbourne on Friday and the Crows released a statement later that evening saying they were aware that the contracted Vince was exploring options.
He is due to travel overseas this week but was expected to speak with coach Brenton Sanderson beforehand.
