Young Adelaide midfielder Ronin O’Connor is determined to improve his foot skills ahead of his first year in the AFL system.

The 19-year-old was selected with pick No. 42 in last year’s draft and donned the Crows colours for the first time on Saturday.

Following the match, O’Connor told AFC Media that he wanted to further develop his football “weapons”

“Being able to hit that connection on the 45, be a bit more cleanier by foot,” O’Connor said.

“(And) in that contest to drive the legs, absorb the contest and give the hands to a free player.

“I’ll continue to work on that in training and keep learning off the senior players in the team.”

NICKS STRATEGY: Young Crow to play final Marsh game

The Crows suffered a six-point defeat to Port Adelaide in the U23 trial match at Thebarton, but took positives from a second-half fightback.

“Our second quarter wasn't too good, but we went back to what we had in the first quarter - team first and our weapons,” O’Connor said.

“Once we did that, we really started creating options for our teammates… then we came back and nearly took it.”

O’Connor was also full of praise for his teammates on Saturday.

Benny Davis (impressed) with his pressure in the third quarter, run down tackles from a forward,” O’Connor said.

“It really kind of turned the game around for us.

Harry Schoenberg was great with his leg drive and really turned it on in the third.”
