Kieran Strachan tackles Reilly O'Brien

Adelaide ruckman Kieran Strachan is embracing the challenge of facing AFL competition every week, but admits not playing for points is “difficult”.

The Crows and Power announced earlier this year they would not take part in the 2020 SANFL side.

In its place, Clubs’ non-selected players are playing scratch matches against AFL opponents in a bid to give themselves a chance to press for senior selection.

Strachan, who is now in his third season at the Crows, has seized the chance to play in the ruck following an extended period up forward.

“Obviously it’s been difficult, not playing for points and not playing to play finals,” Strachan told The Optus Crows Show.

“But personally I’ve thrived and enjoyed the opportunity to come up against blokes who have played AFL footy.

“Being able to match myself up against them and knowing I can compete gives me really good confidence.”

Reserves coach Heath Younie said the Club was making the best of a tough situation.

“We’ve brought our whole squad up here into the hub and what we’ve done is try to create opportunities the best we can with the current circumstances,” Younie said.

“We’d still love to be playing in the SANFL, competing for wins…

“Right at the moment, we’re making the best of a challenging situation.”
