Adelaide has chosen former club rookie Jason Porplyzia with its only selection in the NAB AFL Pre-season Draft. And three of the Crows' four selections in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft are 18-year-old South Australians - Glenelg's Brad Sugars and Tom Redden and South Adelaide's Sam Elliott, who have played for the state under-18 team. The fourth player, Adelaide's third pick in the rookie draft, is giant Port Melbourne forward Adrian Bonaddio, 19, 195 centimetres and 103 kilograms.Remarkably, midfielder Porplyzia, tall forward Sugars, tall forward/defender Redden and slick midfielder Elliott are products of Sacred Heart College, as is ruckman John Hinge, who was recently upgraded from Adelaide's rookie list to its senior (primary) list.Porplyzia, 21 only four weeks ago, was on the Crows' rookie list in 2003 before returning to SANFL club West Adelaide, where he won the Bloods' best-and-fairest award this year and also earned selection in the SANFL state team.Adelaide recruiting manager James Fantasia said Porplyzia deserved another chance to break into the AFL after having played 'good, solid league football for West'."His fitness levels have improved dramatically," Fantasia said. James rang last night and said they were going to pick me up with their pick if I was there today, so I couldn't sleep much last night, I was too excited."I think the main reason I was let go last time was my fitness probably wasn't up to AFL standards, so I think I have made some big improvements in that area. I probably got a bit stronger and a bit quicker, as well."My motivation has been to get back to AFL level, so I've worked pretty hard to get back. I wasn't sure if I'd get another crack or not but I knew I would give it my best shot."The first time I was here I learned a lot and took away a few things, so I definitely know what is required to take the next step and make it."
