Adelaide forward James Rowe embraced chants of his name after kicking his first AFL goal on Saturday.

Rowe booted two in his debut as the Crows recorded a shock 12-point win over last season’s grand finalist Geelong.

The 21-year-old told AFC Media after the game of the elation felt from booting his first AFL major.

“I don’t know what I was doing… I took a bounce, I never take a bounce,” Rowe said.

“I put it through and probably had a bit too much carry on but it’s a dream come true, kicking your first goal at Adelaide Oval.

“The boys all got around me, which was really special.”

Playing in front of 40,000 people, Rowe said the atmosphere gave him “shivers”.

I’ve never felt anything like that, never walked off to a standing ovation at quarter-time before,” he said.

“It’s pretty easy to get inspired when you’ve got 40,000 people behind you.

“It sent shivers down me.”

Rowe was also full of praise for star forward Taylor Walker after the key forward booted five in a dominant display against the Cats.

“It reminded me of watching Tex (when I was younger),” Rowe said.

“I’ve been a Crows fan my whole life, so it was pretty special being the one kicking to him a few times.

“He’s been outstanding this whole pre-season, especially with the younger boys.”
