Adelaide Chairman John Olsen says racism is “abhorrent and not part of the culture” at the Club.

In a message sent direct to Members following the racial vilification incident involving Taylor Walker, Mr Olsen said racism had no place at the Club or in the broader community.

“I wanted to, as Chair of the Board, support the CEO and our Coach in clearly identifying that racism of any nature is abhorrent and not part of the culture of this Club,” Mr Olsen said.

“Unfortunately, Taylor has made a statement which he has owned, which he has apologised for, and which in his own words he has said he’s ‘ashamed, embarrassed’, having uttered those words.

“The fact that a Club official overheard the remarks, reported them to the Club and we self-reported to the AFL, clearly underscores the culture that Matthew Nicks and Tim Silvers are putting in place.

“We do not support, under any circumstances, racial vilification.

“An incident such as this has broad ramifications and impact on many individuals. It’s why racism and expressions of vilification are totally abhorrent.

“We accept and endorse the sanction that has been put in place by the AFL.”

Mr Olsen said the Club was supporting its people and would wrap its arms around everyone affected by the incident.

“We will be putting in place support, encouragement to our Indigenous players at this Club as we have in the past and so we will in the future,” he said.
