Veteran Crow Richard Douglas has set his sights on a coaching role once he hangs up his AFL boots.

The 32-year-old has been helping to coach the State U18s side, following in the footsteps of teammate Brodie Smith in 2018.

“I got involved coaching with the State 18s because I thought that was what I really wanted to do after football,” Douglas told The Crows Show, brought to you by Optus.

“I’ve been involved for 14 years at the AFL level and developed a passion for coaching, so I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity.

“I’m looking after the midfield group so it’s been good for my development.”

Smith enjoyed a similar role last season during the State 18 side’s championship run.

“The guys that were here last year speak highly of Brodie and he speaks highly of the group,” Douglas said.

“They were lucky enough to win the championship last year.

“He’s (Smith) still got the medal hanging above his locker, which he’s really proud of.”
