Veteran Adelaide forward Taylor Walker says his hamstring injury is on the “very minor end”, and is aiming to return before the Crows’ Round 12 bye.
The Club’s all-time leading goalkicker suffered the injury in the first quarter of Showdown 59, and had to watch from the sidelines as his team produced a memorable one-point victory.
Speaking to Roo, Ditts and Loz on Triple M Adelaide, Walker gave an update on his recovery timeline.
“It’s just on the minor end, very, very minor so it should hopefully just be one-to-two weeks,” Walker said.
“The plan is to hopefully come back and play before the bye, we’ll see how I go over the next five-to-seven days, I’ll go for three-or-four runs this week and try and build up from there.
“I already went for a little run yesterday, we try to get going (with the injury) as much as we can to what you feel comfortable with.”
He also went in depth on how the injury occurred and how both he and the Club physios came to the decision to pull him out of the match in its early stages.
“Early in the game I went for a lead to Keaysy and just had to prop and stop a bit and just felt a little something in my right hamstring,” Walker said.
“I was cruising around after that for probably five-to-ten minutes and was probably 70 to 75 per cent fine, but then I saw my number come up on the board to go to the interchange and tell the doc.
“Thats when the physio started working on my glute to try and release the hammy, I went back on and then there was a kick from Peatling where I had to get out of first gear and get going, but I couldn’t.
“So we decided that was it, and I had to sit and watch and wow I certainly felt the emotions of that one-point finish.”
Walker had a front row view to a classic Showdown finish, where teammate Brayden Cook etched his name into Crows folklore with a stunning match-winning goal.
He said the moment served as a great reward for the hard work Cook put in across the summer.
“He’s a ripping kid, and it’s so good to see him doing well,” Walker said.
“The off-season always sets up a healthy pre-season which allows you to have a good season, and he just went to work in the summer.
“We always knew he had lots of talent, but now he’s been able to collaborate his work ethic and talent and is having a great year.
“He’s been super important for us out on that wing, he’s been able to go forward and kick goals and push back and help our defence, he’s been rewarded for the work he put in during the off-season.”
Adelaide takes on Richmond at the MCG this Sunday afternoon, with the first bounce at 2.45pm (ACST).
