A number of premiership stars will play their first footy match since the AFLW Grand Final on Sunday, when they line up for NT Thunder in the first round of the 2019 VFLW season.

Chelsea Randall, Angela Foley, Marijana Rajcic, Deni Varnhagen and Ailish Considine have been named to face the reigning premiers, Hawthorn.

NT Thunder’s list was lodged last week, with Dayna Cox, Nikki Gore, Eloise Jones, Ebony Marinoff, Hannah Martin, Danielle Ponter and Stevie-Lee Thompson also named in the initial squad.

While those players are the only ones on the initial list at the moment, each team in the VFLW competition can make 10 senior list changes.

Therefore, several other Crows are set to feature later in the season.

As the inaugural NT Thunder Club Champion, Foley has been named vice-captain in 2019, while All Australian forward Thompson has been selected in the leadership group.

Crows AFLW assistant coach Narelle Smith will also be involved, coaching the Adelaide-based training group.

The team will play nine games in Victoria and their remaining five matches at home at TIO Stadium in Darwin.

Each team can name twelve AFLW players per round, however only four players each week are allowed to be based outside of the Northern Territory.

Former Darwin residents Foley and Thompson are not included in that four however, as they came through the NT footy ranks.

The VFLW regular season runs from May until the end of August.
